Slauson Girl: The Journey of a Black Journalist in South Central, Los Angeles is a memoir that documents Black girlhood and Black survival in South Central, Los Angeles through lived experience rather than distant observations and critiques.

This book is both personal and political—drawing from my upbringing, career in journalism, and firsthand encounters with gentrification, cultural exploitation, and resistance. I write with the understanding that Black stories must be told by Black people, rooted in place, history, and truth.

As the founder of a Black-owned media platform focused on hyper-local journalism in Los Angeles, I have spent years documenting community events, cultural shifts, displacement, and the everyday realities of Black life from the inside. My reporting prioritizes accountability, memory, and cultural integrity, with a particular focus on Black women and girls whose experiences are frequently overlooked in mainstream media.
